The deadline to apply for the French Immersion lottery (Phase 1) is January 31, 2022.

French Programs offered by the Waterloo Region District School Board

The Core French program is a pathway that provides all students with the opportunity to learn French. There is no application required for Core French. The Waterloo Region District School Board also offers an optional French program called French Immersion. For the best chance of getting into the French Immersion program, students must apply to the lottery before January 31, 2022.

Who is eligible to apply for Grade 1 French Immersion?
All children born in 2016 are invited to apply.

How do I apply for French Immersion?
You can apply online at We use a lottery system to form our Grade 1 French Immersion classes. Applications to the lottery are accepted until January 31 (Phase 1). When will we know if our child is placed in the French Immersion program?
Families are notified in early March if their child will be placed in French Immersion for Grade 1. Once your child gets into the program, you will have 2 weeks to click on the link sent to your email to confirm acceptance. If the child is not already attending the school, you must complete any student registration or transfer paperwork provided by the WRDSB. If a student declines their spot, students from the waiting list will be contacted to fill those spots.
